Section 18
Provisions relating to tuition fees
(1) Notwithstanding anything contained in the prevailing law, the fee charged for the graduate program of medical education shall be as follows:-
(A) The commission will determine the fee in consultation with the university, institution or educational institution, taking into account the costs and operating expenses, inflation, geographical location, scholarships and free services of the university, institution or educational institution.
(b) One third of the amount to be collected from the student in the first year and the remaining amount will be collected annually in installments.
(c) The student has to pay the first year fee through the concerned university.
(2) The arrangement regarding the fee charged for the postgraduate program in medical education shall be as follows:-
(a) In case of educational institutions other than public educational institutions, the Commission shall determine the fee in consultation with the concerned universities, institutes and educational institutions.
(b) Nepalese students will not be charged tuition fees while studying basic medical sciences or clinical disciplines (medical and dental) in public educational institutions and such students will be provided adequate subsistence allowance by the relevant educational institutions.
(c) Fees charged for studies in Nursing, Ayurveda and other medical education subjects under the relevant educational institutions will be as prescribed.
(3) Notwithstanding anything else written in this Act, after the commencement of this Act, the post-graduate level in the field of medicine conducted in government educational institutions shall be free for Nepali students.
(4) Notwithstanding anything written in sub-sections (1) and (2), in the case of foreign students, the respective university or institution shall determine the fee on the basis of the criteria determined by the Commission.
(5) If a foreign student is not admitted to a seat reserved for a foreign student but a Nepali student is admitted, the tuition fee determined for a Nepali student will have to be charged.
(6) If Nepali students do not come for admission, foreign students can be admitted to such seats after taking the permission of the commission.
